The event

At the end of the month that celebrates WORLD DANCE DAY (29 April, Conseil International de la Danse UNESCO), we like to recall how much dance has been, in the history of the twentieth century, a way of recognizing the centrality of women in the world of art. and culture. Still, in the world of dance in all forms, many women work and create, even if in recent years a dance full of muscles and appearance has spread, signed by various male choreographers, and not only. Diana Jordan argued the importance of considering dance as a form of creative and artistic expression and not as an appendage to physical education. In 1937, after leaving Germany due to conflicts with the regime that had arisen, Laban spent a period in Paris, tired and suffering. There he met Lisa Ullmann, a very important figure in the development of his research in the educational area. The association between Laban and Ullmann was long; together they founded Art of Movement Studio, in Manchester, a center that the English Ministry of Education identified (1950) as a training place where teachers could train in Modern Educational Dance, considered a subject of study for the development of creativity, of the critical sense, through pedagogical practice based on the foundations of the movement. After Rudolf Laban's death, Lisa Ullmann continued to popularize educational modern dance, which entered fully into most English primary schools. Simonetta Ottone and Lorella Rapisarda will talk to us about this Pioneer of Modern Dance in England.

An evening dedicated to the history of dance, well embedded in the revolution wrought by modern art in the twentieth century.

This will be followed by a moment of movement together and a moment of conviviality
